Study Abroad Pathway
Singapore offers a structured and diverse education pathway from preschool to university. Students can choose between government and international schools, with multiple entry points and curriculum options like the local MOE system, IB, IGCSE, or A-Levels. The system supports different academic strengths and goals, providing pathways to public universities, polytechnics, or private institutions.
Preschool
Preschools in Singapore typically cater to children aged 3 to 4, while infant care is available from as young as 2 months. Government preschools, such as MOE Kindergartens and Early Years Centres (EYCs), are affordable and follow national standards but are primarily for citizens and PRs. International preschools offer globally recognised curricula (e.g. IB PYP), culturally diverse environments, and seamless progression to international primary schools.
Primary School
Primary education in Singapore begins at age 7 and typically lasts six years. Students can choose between government and international schools. Government primary schools follow a national curriculum and prepare students for the PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examination), which determines secondary school placement. International schools offer alternative pathways with globally recognised curricula (e.g. IB PYP), providing greater flexibility and direct progression to overseas secondary education.
Secondary School
Secondary education in Singapore typically begins at age 13 after completing Primary 6. Students may enter government secondary schools through the PSLE or AEIS (for international students), progressing through different tracks including the Integrated Programme (IP). These lead to national exams like the GCE O-Level or A-Level. Alternatively, international schools offer globally recognised curricula such as IB MYP, IGCSE, or others, allowing direct progression to pre-university or overseas institutions.
Tertiary Education
Students in Singapore can choose from several pathways after secondary school. Junior Colleges offer a two-year A-Level curriculum focused on academic depth, preparing students for university. Polytechnics provide three-year diploma courses with a practical, career-oriented approach, also allowing progression to university. The IBDP is a two-year internationally recognized program emphasizing critical thinking and broad-based learning, ideal for students aiming for global university admission. These pathways cater to different learning styles and future goals, helping students prepare effectively for higher education.
University (Bachelor's)
University education in Singapore is offered through both public and private institutions. Public universities like NUS, NTU, and SMU are globally ranked and offer a wide range of undergraduate programmes. Entry is typically based on A-Level, IB, Polytechnic diploma, or equivalent qualifications. Private institutions often partner with overseas universities to provide internationally recognised degrees, offering flexible study options and shorter course durations. Students can choose their path based on academic strengths, career goals, and preferred learning styles.
